21st Annual Conference - Report

Multiple District 105 Lioness Clubs Chairman Phyllis King welcomed all to Conference.

Conference commenced with registration on the Friday afternoon followed in true Lioness style with Fun & Frolics. This years theme was Arabian Nights, with entertainment by “The Jelly Belly Dancing Group” with Lions & Lionesses joining in the spirit dressed in Arabian Costumes, with one Zone Chairman dressed as a belly dancer.

Saturday morning and it is down to Business.

Following the Flag Ceremony ably conducted by Kesteven & Sleaford High School Guides.  The Mayor of Grantham Councillor Mrs Avril Williams officially opened Conference and during her speech she expressed and interest in starting a Lioness Club in Grantham..

Multiple District 105 Lioness Clubs Chairman Phyllis King welcomed all to Conference, including Lioness Co-ordinator PDG Lion George Morgan, Council Chairman Lion Bryan Riley and District Governor Lion Derek Blow, together with their partners.

Following the opening ceremony some partners were taken to visit Lincoln Cathedral.

The Morning session continued with a very interesting and informative talk by Lion Brigid Hendy on C.R.B. checks and I.S.A. registration.

There was only one resolution to be debated, regarding of subscriptions. It was agreed that they would remain the same for the coming fiscal year.

MD Treasurer Amanda Cale reported that during 2007-2008 the donations made by clubs in MD105 totalled over £72,000 – this from just 21 clubs.

There was also one nomination for the post of MD Secretary and Lioness Gill Williams of Paddock Wood & District Lioness Club was duly elected.

Chairman of Council Lion Bryan Riley addressed Conference, commenting that this was his first experience of a Lioness Conference and that we certainly new how to enjoy ourselves.

The afternoon session started with Workshops one on  Health and Safety and one regarding the Way Forward.

After a break for Coffee/Tea the Afternoon concluded with an extremely entertaining speech from Robin Cousins MBE who won the World Free Skating Championship Gold Medal three times (78,79,80) along with World Championship Silver and European Championship Gold before winning the Olympic Gold Medal at Lake Placid in 1980, 29 years ago to the day.

Saturday evening was again celebrated in true Lioness style dancing the night away to a Disco.

Sunday Morning and Conference commences with presentations to: Swaffham Lioness Club for winning the Scrap Book competition & Chelmsford Lioness Club for winning the “Photo Caption” competition.

Nancy Kemp gave a very informative talk on The Eve Appeal, which is researching Ovarian Cancer and is the M.D. 105 Lioness Clubs Chairman Phyllis King’s chosen charity.

The Conference was expertly arranged by Sleaford Lioness Club. Well Done!

Next years Conference is on 19th – 21st February 2010
